SCFOR Statement: House Approves H.3516
Columbia, SC – Today, by a vote of 97-18 the South Carolina House of Representatives granted a key approval to H.3516, a comprehensive road funding and reform bill.
The SC Alliance to Fix Our Roads President, Bill Ross, issued the following statement in response to the House amending and giving key approval to the roads bill, H.3516:
“This is a very positive step in fixing our roads and bridges. We are pleased that the House of Representatives, for the second year in a row, made this critical move in passing a comprehensive road funding plan. Representative Gary Simrill’s leadership has been vital to navigating this plan through the legislative process.”
“Members of the South Carolina House have listened to the voters and they have acted in our state’s best interest. This body, which is closest to the people, has demonstrated its overwhelming support for the roads bill. As such, the burden of responsibility for our crumbling roads now falls upon the Senate and the Governor. It is time for our leaders to break through the political gridlock and provide for the future safety and economic prosperity of all South Carolinians.”
“We implore the Senate to take up this legislation and approve a solution to the state’s transportation infrastructure crisis this year. South Carolina drivers cannot wait another year for a plan to fix our crumbling roads.”
